About
Our Location:

In 1858, John Stoddard had this building
commissioned to be designed and built by
the famous New York architect, John Norris.
He was one of three major architects
including William Jay and Charles B. Clusky
in Savannah at the time. The lower
floors were known as John Stoddard's Lower
Range and the top floors as John Stoddard's
Upper Range. The building was originally
used as a warehouse and later house the
Stevens Shipping Company. Some of
John Norris' other works include the Andrew
Lowe House, the Cotton Exchange, the Mercer
House, and the Meldrim-Green House.
During the
War Between the States, General Sherman's
lesser officers used this building's empty
offices for housing and planning space.
You can see in our main dining room
a map that was hand drawn by Union soldiers
detailing Sherman's march from Tennessee
through Georgia. The map was originally
found in 1901 during a renovation of the
building. The workers were removing
the old finish and began noticing lines
drawn on the wall. A small portion
of the map was framed and the rest covered
due to the backs of chairs wearing away
the bottom part of the map. We have
uncovered and preserved as much of the map
as possible for all to be able to view an
important part of our history.
Floor Plan:
The first floor of our building is located
on River Street. This level houses
a coffee shop serving pastries, ice cream,
and specialty coffees. It also has
an elevator to carry our guests to the main
dining room and bar.
The second
floor is Sona's Salon where our guests can
enjoy shopping for unique souvenirs after
dining.
The kitchen,
men's and women's restrooms, and offices
of Vic's on the River are found on the third
floor. The Chef's Table, an intimate
room known as Dieter's Den (pronounced Dee-ter)
is also located here. This is a cozy
space which can seat 10-35 people for private
affairs or business meetings.
The fourth
floor, or Bay Street Level, is our main
entrance. On this level, you will
find the Piano Bar, the Main Dining Room,
and Sherman's Map.
The fifth floor,
known as the Stoddard Room, is accessible
by both elevator and stairs from the main
entrance on Bay Street. This level
can be reserved as a banquet hall and private
party area for entertaining large parties
up to 150 guests.
